Bugless Beast is a custom ROM based on the Android 2.2 source code. It contains a number of advantages over Android 2.1-based firmwares, such as improved battery life and responsiveness, especially while browsing the internet. The Bugless Beast team has further increased speed and efficiency of Android 2.2, and, combined with the powers of root, they have created what I consider the absolute best way to enjoy your Droid.

This guide assumes you are on non-rooted stock 2.1. If you're already rooted, or have another custom ROM already, just skip ahead to Step 8.

1. Download VZW Droid Image. It is the recovery image Verizon and Motorola use to return Droids to a factory state.
2. Download and install RSD Lite 4.6.
3. Download and install the USB drivers either 64 bit or 32 bit depending on your system.
4. Connect your phone to USB and turn it off. Then, while your phone is booting, hold up on the directional pad.
5. Click the ... next to the filename box and browse to where you saved the .sbf file and double click the .sbf file.
6. Click start. Once your phone is done being flashed, it will reboot and you will be back at stock 2.0.1 but with no root.
7. Follow this guide to root your 2.0.1 Droid, them return here and continue following the instructions.

8. Download ROM Manager from the Market.
9. Open ROM Manager and let it install ClockworkMod Recovery.
   ROM Manager might look like its crashing while it is flashing CMRecovery to the bootloader. Just click Wait and be patient.
   If you prefer nandroid to CMRecovery, you are welcome to use it instead.
10. Download ASTRO File Manager from the Market.
11. Download Bugless Beast straight to your Micro SD card using this link.
12. Reboot your Droid while holding down x to enter ClockworkMod Recovery.
13. Select install zip from SD card. Navigate to the /downloads folder and select the Bugless Beast zip.

Congratulations, you're now running Bugless Beast! You can now install Flash, Wireless Tether, and more! The first thing you should do is immediately download Launcher Pro Beta, which will provide you with an even greater level of stability and responsiveness that you gained from upgrading to Bugless Beast.
